The history
The neighbourhood wasn’t designed as a grid. Most developers at the time cleared land frontier-style, stripping the trees and boulders before building. Francis Caulfeild did the opposite in 1899, routing his streets along paths worn by deer, bear, and even a neighbor’s cow. He was known to say “the cow is always right”, and the curving, one-way roads are still exactly as he left them.
The nature was preserved on purpose, which is why tree work here is mostly precision work, keeping properties safe, healthy and looking good rather than larger developments.
Local Considerations
What to expect from a tree service in Caulfeild
Caulfeild's narrow, one-way roads mean equipment staging and truck access can be challenging on some properties. With mature trees close to high-value homes, there's usually not a lot of room to drop a 900-pound piece of wood without damaging a driveway, irrigation, or landscaping. In situations like this, pieces get rigged down by hand instead of dropped.
Where a view is the goal, that usually means selective pruning to preserve the natural landscape, the same instinct that shaped this neighborhood a century ago.
